Are bikes like the Z900 or the Street Triple too much for NYC commuting?

I’m in my second year of riding and am an owner of a Ninja 400 and Street Twin. For my 3rd bike, I’m looking for a something with a little more power just so I have quicker acceleration for passing and hitting gaps. Otherwise, I think both, especially the Ninja, are excellent, almost ideal, commuter bikes. I rarely hit a ton, and in my commute, there’s a lot of stop and go traffic and 30mph lane splitting with some bursts of speed. I do use the bikes on a few weekends for cruising and canyon carving.So, do you think bikes like the Z900 or the Street Triple would be overkill for my purposes?
