http://imgur.com/gallery/n2pSdjtSo against all logic and reason I decided to make the asinine rookie decision to buy a somewhat obscure older motorcycle and attempt to make it into a cafe racer as my first bike. But it's going pretty well.Today I pulled the engine (1985 GL1200, that's right, this GL1000 has 1200cc's) to weld in some new frame supports to replace the ones I cut out to fit the CB750 fuel tank. At least I have tools for the project and know how to weld. The next steps for me are going to be welding in the rear hoop, cutting off all the unnecessary tabs and then painting the frame. Right now I'm waiting on a motogadget m-unit and about $150 in wire, connectors, nylon sleeving, and shrink tube from eBay to make an entirely new wiring harness. As I'm also a hobbyist computer builder, making a clean electronics solution for this bike is pretty high on the list. Out front you'll notice a GSXR 1000 fork (that I got with brakes for $200!), so I'm saving for Cognito Moto's GSXR spoked hub, and conversion stem. At the back, I'm also saving for some upgraded suspension. I'm deciding between this set of Legend Revo-a's ($925), these Icon's ($490), or these Hagon's ($240). Obviously it's 3 hugely different price points, and as I have actually no experience riding, it'd be great to hear your opinions.Clearly there's more to do, but I was just so excited to share, and can't wait to see some of you on the road maybe somewhat soon! via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/g1nafb/1978_goldwing_cafe_racer_in_the_making/?utm_source=ifttt
