I’d spent my entire riding life hearing “dress for the slide not the ride” and I always scoffed at that thinking that won’t be me!Well i still always wore full gear whenever I went for a ride. Jacket, helmet, gloves. And then finally on that summer day in 2018 I did go down. Hit by a car taking a wrong left turn. I remember flipping over the handlebars and landing on my back. I did fracture my wrist (and nothing else thankfully) but I’m convinced that had I not been wearing that thick leather jacket with back protectors I would have had a nasty back injury. Or would have hit my head without a helmet.I still ride but I now commute in a car. Today I went to the canyons in a car and noticed just how many people don’t wear gear. I saw a lady who was riding and seemed pretty new given how careful and stiff she was while riding. Only a helmet and one of those armor vests. Arms exposed, wearing leggings. Saw a few others in t shirts and minimal protection. Those leggings will not protect your skin from a fall while running let alone sliding across the tarmac at 45mph. Your skin really doesn’t do well with friction and gravel.People, please wear your protective gear. Accidents happen in the matter of seconds, sometimes with no fault of your own. A little inconvenience saves your life. It did mine. via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/ey0scy/the_importance_of_gear/?utm_source=ifttt
