Weak heat on F800GS grips?

Hey y’all, recently picked up my first Beemer a ‘11 F800GS. Great bike but despite having heated grips it’s leaving me cold. Resistance at both grips is good and I just changed out the battery. Despite that the highest setting is barely adequate when compared to my dads 1150 that you could cook grilled cheese on. Do these bikes just have piss poor heated grips or am I looking at a problem?
