The case against "IMU doping" - What did we learn in 2019?

One to two years ago, there were concerns that some factories (*cough Honda *cough Ducati *cough) were "doping" their own IMU units against the 'spirit' of the unified ECU: Crash.net: MotoGP electronics: 'Doping' the IMU.

This caused the FIM to rule a "control IMU" from 2019: Oxley tweet.

So, what did we learn in 2019 - the first season with the control IMU?. That even if some of the manufacturers were fiddling with the IMU data, it had no discernable effect on the race results: Honda and Ducati were still division 1, Yamaha & Suzuki was division 2, KTM still slowly catching up, and Aprilia struggling at the rear.

The changes from 2018 to 2019 can just as well be chalked up to other changes than a leveled IMU playing field. In fact, Marc Marquez was so dominant, that you could make a play for the control IMU being in his favour :-)
