Hey guys any advice for a returning rider and newbie

Hey guys so for a while me and my dad have been planning to get our motorbike licenses together next year. He used to go on and on about his Suzuki RGV 250 that he had at my age that it got me interested into bikes and I just wanna say thank you to this sub for keeping my interests in bikes for ages and helping my dad get back into riding. If theres any tips for a new rider or any major changes for a rider who's used to 90s supersports bikes wanting to get back in :). Thanks guys also which is better for a new rider a CBR300R or Yamaha R3 for a rider with no experience.
