Hey all, I'm super excited. A couple weeks ago I bought my first bike, a 1980 Honda CX500 Custom. This thing is fucking clean, and only has 20k miles on it.... that's like, 500 miles per year for 40 years. Except, that didn't happen - it sat for a long time before the previous owner bought it and started using it as a daily. Now, I've purchased the bike from him for a pretty reasonable price, and ride it daily. It sadly falters on the highway because of a fuel starvation issue (likely the stator, vacuum line to the petcock, or the fuel filter in the rusty ass gas tank). But everyone else this thing is a blast. Everything except the luggage rack is factory.... it's beautiful.A lot of people chop these up and turn 'em into cafes, but I have 0 interest in doing that. I love the factory look of this bike and plan to keep it this way forever. I'm gonna have to replace some things and clean up some stuff, but while maintaining the OEM look with non-OEM parts (mostly because any OEM parts are 40 years old....).To Do: 1) Solve the fuel starvation issue (Will clean out the gas tank, replace all fuel lines and the vacuum line, and rebuild the carbs.)2) Put some better shocks on and rebuild the forks - this thing wasn't exactly built for a 250 pound man 40 years ago, much less one now, after any dampening power has died.3) New Exhaust - this bike has some sick decel pops, and I can only imagine how it'll sound with a better exhaust... it also has a 9k red line, which will probably also sound amazing.4) cosmetic stuff, like repainting the frame, blacking out the engine, pulling dents, replacing or refurbishing rusty stuff, etc.Anyway here's some pics(Gallery) https://imgur.com/gallery/zjQTNbr via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/cqxnyq/first_bike/?utm_source=ifttt
