TLDR I fucked up and didn't insure or secure my new bike, and it was stolen by someone who didn't know what they were doing. So a week ago I made a post here lamenting how my uninsured near new 2019 MT07 was stolen, and I didn't give a huge amount of detail as to the circumstance and there was some well deserved criticism for the information I had provided.I figure if I can complain when the chips are down I owe it to celebrate and give context when I'm up.So here's what happened:I had the bike parked out the front of my house, without it's sterring lock on. Someone simply walked up and wheeled it ~500 metres up the road and stashed it behind an abandoned house with massive overgrown hedges.A week later they came back to hotwire it, but could only get the headlight on presumably due to the immobiliser and then abandoned it again. A neighbour then saw the headlight and called the police. The DamageIn their attempt to hotwire the bike they forcfully ripped off the air intake/fairing and snapped the bracket that holds what I assume is the ECU and a bunch of relays together. This is all I have found damage wise, but will be taking the bike to the dealer to finally get it's 1000km service and have them thoroughly inspect for any other meddling. There is no damage to the keybarrel as I can tell, and the odo isn't reporting any added KMs.Why wasn't the bike insured? Why wasn't it secured? The steering lock was off because the day before I had been making measurents to order a RAM mount, and just didnt re apply it. A silly oversight that would have avoided this whole mess. The insurance is a little more complicated. People were quick to chalk it up to laziness or plain stupidness but I had not even considered the bike getting stolen, it just didn't occur to me as something that happened in this area. I was insuring in the event of a crash and it wasn't being ridden.I had gotten several quotes from insurers and was intending to pay for full comprehensive insurance but I was denied cover by a couple of places due to my driving record. Another major point is that the level of rider's licence I am carrying for the next few months disallows certain modifications to be made to your motorcycle. I have heard varying stories about what defines these from as vague as "performance" to "anything not stock". I have also been told that because I bought and can prove that I bought the bike as is, none of the modifications laws apply to me. Any breach of state law immediately voids all insurance coverage and the PDS wasn't helping me figure out what was applicable. So instead of blindly insuring the bike and potentially wasting a large sum of money, I decided to simply wait until I had a day off to sit down and work everything out, and the time I penciled in for myelf was 2 days after it got stolen. So now I have the bike back, it starts, it is insured and first thing monday morning I will work on getting it properly fixed, and I will chalk this up as one of the luckiest I will ever be, and have learned from what seemed like minor descisions at the time. Disk locks, floor anchors, space made in the shed, alarmed cover are all either on the way or being organised. via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/cis77q/my_stolen_bike_was_recovered/?utm_source=ifttt
