I snuck away this weekend and rode the Blue Ridge Parkway; 600 miles total in 2 days. I got rained on some, but caught a sunrise and a sunset in the mountains, and hundreds of miles of some of my favorite roads in the world. It was magnificent. I rode aggressively, but within my limits, and was very safe the whole time. Last night, after about 16 hours of riding and enjoying the mountains, I had a guy pull out in front of me when I was literally two blocks from home.I was in the left lane on a road with 2 lanes going each direction and a turning lane in the middle, going about 50 mph. The road was wet. He was coming out of a parking lot on the right side of the road, in a full-size SUV. I saw him positioned to turn and eased off the throttle. He started to pull out, so I let off the throttle completely and honked at him while slowing down, and then he just froze up I guess. He came to a complete stop in the middle of the road, blocking both of my lanes. I swerved while maximally braking. My front brake locked momentarily; I came really close to going over the bars, and then I came really close to running into the oncoming traffic. Somehow I managed to just graze his front bumper, and stayed up.He stopped and got out, and I gave him the tongue lashing of a lifetime. My bike and I were OK. I'd bent my right turn signal, got some paint on my radiator and brake lever. His bumper had a bunch of scratches and a smear/dent of my knee on it.Got home to my wife and had such a big adrenaline dump that I thought I was going to vomit. Physically shaking for an hour afterwards. Still kind of processing how close I came to getting seriously injured. I love my stupid dayglo gear, and it is pretty rare for folks to cut me off, but it goes to show that even with all that, you can still be invisible. Thanks for listening. Be safe.Edit: Obligatory parkway photos attached.https://i.imgur.com/GegjvKl.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/8VQAkAH.jpg via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/cd1dsg/youre_invisible_and_everyone_wants_to_kill_you/?utm_source=ifttt
