Unspoken rules?

Hey everyone. I just have been riding a 250 rebel for a year and am about to get my full license. In celebration I've upgraded to a Honda Shadow 650 and now I'm looking to get some riding buddies. But I'm not sure how the culture is. There are a lot of Harley's around me and I've heard that you have to have a Harley to hang out with Harley riders. Will people look down on me for riding Japanese? Will crotch rocket people not want to ride with someone on a cruiser? Does any of this matter?
