Cost to Repair Rear Drive Shaft / Splines?

I’ve had a 2001 Yamaha V-Star 650 for about 4 years. Up until today, it’s always run great and have taken it on multiple two week long adventures. Today as I was out and about the gears stopped working. I’d shift it into gear and the engine would just rev. There was also now a rattle in the rear of the bike. I talked to someone and they told me it sounds like the splines are shot.I’m wondering if anyone could give me any sort of insight on cost I’ll be looking at to repair.
