So may seem trivial to most but I'm very mechanically inept so trying to "break" a super duper tight 24mm nut off the back of my bike, using sub-par equipment that I have used for like tighenting a bolt on the washer or fridges feet , seemed a huge daunting taskI'd been riding now 2 1/2 years, first bike I had was a brand new bike (125cc) so I had them adjust my chain for my for free when I went for the first (also free) service, and now moved onto a 500cc bike that was used and the chain was almost out at 60mm recently, way beyond the 35-45mm recommendationSo after much humming and arring between getting a breaker bar, better sockets, just put up with the £15-£25 cost of paying a garage to adjust, and also trying before with my adjustble spanner to no avail to budge the nut (I was just pushing and am not very strong/big built at all!), I watched videos and read suggestions for hours with my conundrum - yes, my anxienty is really that bad :|Anyhoos, read one post about not just losening but having to "break" the nut (sounded destructive at first, until I read it just meant bang on the spanner than just push), so I got my adjustable super tight onto the nut, got a normal hammer just to use the rubber hande to rest 90 degrees over my spanner and I just banged it a good few times with my outer fist and hey presto, the nut shifted to a point where the spanner would turnThe actual adjustment time barely a few minutes of a couple of turns plus a slight turn extra on one side to align the whell (using the strin method), and then done up the nut super hand tight again. I didn't have a torque wrench so a painted a line along the nut onto the swingarm, then counted the turns off for the nut (5 full rotations to loosen enough) and made sure I done the same 5 rotations backwards.... so maybe I have a question of if that would equal the same torque now, as it was super fecking hard to turn the nut through that very last rotation, bashing the last few bits?P.S. Sorry such a long winded post, but the joy I feel now is awesome from what I guess should just be an easy thing... via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/c2tykq/chuffed_with_myself_tightened_my_chain_myself_for/?utm_source=ifttt
