High sided this weekend at about 40 mph. I was covered from head to toe in high quality saftey gear: helmet, armored jacket, armored kevlar jeans, armored leather gloves, and motorcycle boots. Even at a relatively low speed, I still ended up with a broken collar bone and some road rash on my knee where the slide wore through my riding pants. I can't imagine what the damage would have been had I skimped out on any of my gear.I want to specifically point out gloves. Get something thick and preferably leather. Yeah, it might be a bit hot, and might not give you the same feel as a thinner glove, but your hands are the first things you're going to put out when you're about to hit the ground. Sliding 100+ feet on pavement with dirt bike gloves is not going to protect your hands. I upgraded my gloves a few weeks ago to the alpinestars SP8 v2, which I thought was over kill for the street... I was wrong. While they did an excellent job of protecting my hands, one of the fingers still wore through in the slide. This is my first experience with road rash and let me tell you, it sucks.... a whole lot. I would gladly take being hot over the constant pain of road rash. I've only got it in a small section on my knee, I can't imagine it being all over my body. I live in south Louisiana, so if I can stand the heat and humidity in all my safety gear, you can too. Trust me, you'll be glad you sweated through all those hot days if you go down. This post might just get buried, and I know I'm probably not the first to say any of this, but I just had to make this post because I think of all the people I ride with or see on the road not wearing full gear. Please, wear your gear. Cover yourself from head to toe every time you get on the bike. Not doing so just isn't worth it. via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/bu0k4h/just_a_reminder_to_wear_all_of_your_gear/?utm_source=ifttt
