Wear your gear post of the day - harvested a deer yesterday the hard way!

Took a buddy on one of my favorite rides yesterday. The PreambleIt was an especially hot day in the valleys so he asked:"You gonna wear your jacket?"My answer:"Absolutely, always wear it, and it's well vented anyway."The ForeshadowingAt the gas stop right before we hit the mountain pass he asked:"Do we have to worry about deer?"My answer:"Never seen them on this next section but the road is wide with large runoff areas except where it's so steep that deer won't be hanging out there. We can cook it."Yeah, Not so MuchSo we were cooking it when about halfway down the other side of the pass I (riding lead) exit a fast corner where the sides of the road are so steep and rocky that "deer won't be hanging out there," get on the throttle, and maybe a couple hundred yards after I stood the bike up God teleported a juvenile male Whitetail directly in front of me.I had no time to brake. As I looked in its eye and saw the terror I thought:"C'mon little guy, what are you doing? It's small, I might be able to stay on the bike. Let me just sit forward and weight the front tire."Then I hit it and my bars immediately jerked left and I thought:"Wow, that was hard. Definitely going down hard here."Next moment of consciousness I'm looking back at my bike down and slide-spinning on the street then off into the sand on the roadside while I'm flying through the air. My thoughts:"Oh that looks bad. Maybe she'll be OK though?"Didn't feel the impact with the road until about 45 minutes later. Flash forward to me superman sliding a long ways down the road. When I came to a stop I jumped up and checked myself out immediately. The AftermathThe accident scene and my gear suggested that I hit the deer, was immediately launched over the handlebars, flew about 10-15 yards in the air, landed on my left hip and shoulder, rolled onto my front, and slid for a good 30 yards maybe more. I have a sore shoulder and hip, a broken pinkie, and lost a layer (or two) of skin on a patch of my arm from the abrasion heat (I think). After he knew I was OK and we picked up the bike my buddy immediately started field dressing the deer while I got on the phone. Yeah, that's how we live out here in the "flyover" states. The GearAGV K3SV Helmet (unscathed - pretty sure I didn't hit my head)Klim Apex Air - w/D3O Pro (shredded instead of me)RevIt Austin Jeans - w/doubled up SeeSmart knee armor and SeeSoft hip armor (shredded instead of me)RevIt Chevron 2 Gloves (shredded instead of me)RevIt Scout H2O Boots (toe box shredded instead of me)ATGATTThe police, sheriff, and ambulance crew couldn't believe how unscathed I emerged given the dynamics of the accident and I was enormously thankful for the gear as I was sliding. Without it I would likely be in the hospital now with broken hip, broken shoulder/collarbone, no palms or forearms left (worn to the bone), serious road rash from the knee to waist, and maybe a missing toe or two.Edit:Picshttps://imgur.com/a/BqIO1Sm via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/92ngs1/wear_your_gear_post_of_the_day_harvested_a_deer/?utm_source=ifttt
