Hey good folks!I'm an "old" aspiring rider who've been lurking for the past months.. I used to ride dirt bikes when I was a kid with my brother, we would burn around on our dad's private road at the farm, riding was all I really wanted to do..Then, my uncle got himself killed while riding reckless on his r1, its about 20 years ago now.. I never felt like riding a bike or even a car since then..However, times and things change as you mature, so I forced myself to finish the normal car licence, and its going great.. But the better part is, when I decided I needed to change my mindset and start the long journey back to my old mental roots of siting on a bike..So I began to research and read, and had long talks with my brother (who rides), and I feel I need to do it.. Simply for 2 reasons. 1) need to get over the fear of it. 2) want to be spiritually closer to my uncle who I seriously still miss way too much..The good thing about the research I've done and the general impact its had on my current driving mentality of cars is that I at least feel I'm hyper vigilant regarding as many potential dangerous situations as I possible can given my limited road experience.. And I try to think more from a motorcyclists perspective when driving regularly..Not sure if it helps any more or less than anything else, but if anything it makes me feel way more secure.. The day I get my car license I'm gonna sign up for the intro safety course for motorcycles, which by my estimates will be in about 3-4 months..Cannot wait to start, and in the meantime I'm keeping the lurking up and absorbing every bit of info I possibly can from the theory side of things..Reading posts on this reddit is a blast, so many people are safety observant and state it time and time again, it's just awesome to see..So I want to thank all you riders who preach safety and secure riding.. You've really given me something I never thought I'd get back :)Stay safe! via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/btz2b3/aspiring_rider_with_a_story/?utm_source=ifttt
