It drastically reduces the risk of rear end collisions, often eliminating it completely in many circumstances.Filtering to the front of the light allows the rider to watch out for red light runners and even warn others to stay backBreaking away from the cluster of cars and the flow of traffic, allows the rider to have their safe distance of space away from all the distracted drivers in their own little bubbles. It also lets the riders see potential hazards up ahead such as a car about to make a blind left turn, much better as there are no cars around the rider to obscure the rider’s view of that potentially hazardous car up ahead. It reduces traffic for everyone involved. That’s one less motorcycle someone has to wait behind and if more people rode motorcycles and lane split, traffic overall would be greatly reduced as motorcycles take up way less space than cars on the road.Motorcycles can overheat in traffic, even water cooled ones, depending on how hot it is outside. Not only can motorcycles overheat, but the rider can as well. Sitting in traffic in full gear on a hot day can pose a great risk of heat stroke to the rider.Constantly breathing in exhaust fumes from idling cars in traffic is bad for the rider’s lungsIt obviously gets you where you want to go fasterIt provides a means of escape for a rider in an emergency such as a multi car pileup, where the rider would otherwise be trapped and crushed by the surrounding carsIt allows a rider to escape a road rage situation instead of being stuck next to the road raging driver and further allowing the situation to escalateI know lane splitting isn’t perfect and it has its own risks, but the pros outweigh the cons and it’s far safer to do it than to not do it. I also know that it can be dangerous if done improperly and recklessly as many riders often do.
