When should I step up to slicks?

I'm about ready for a new set of rubber and was going to go with the same Dunlop Q3s (which I love, after switching from Michelin PP) but have been considering stepping up to slicks. Only because that's what the pro's use.But subconsciously I don't understand how 'no-tread' can lead to more grip. Also I get the impression that you 'need' tire warmers. Which I do not have.So I've been pushing off switching for as long as I can. Because I have no better legitimate reason to switch other than "That's what the pro's use"....Also I love the fact that I can 'kind of' use DOT tires on rainy days. Rather than having a slick set and rain set.Do I break lose sometimes in turns? Yes. Is it the tire's fault? Mostly likely Not.Is it really that big of a change from DOT tires? Is it worth the investment? via /r/Trackdays https://www.reddit.com/r/Trackdays/comments/9nplm3/when_should_i_step_up_to_slicks/?utm_source=ifttt
