My girlfriend and I completed our BRC yesterday, and I thought I’d share a few reflections for anyone browsing this sub who is thinking about taking the course. It was a great way to spend the weekend and I’m excited to start riding!Perceived strengths could be weaknesses. Due to experience on ATVs, snowmobiles, scooters etc, I’m not afraid of getting up to speed and riding a bit more aggressively during the exercises that called for it. But early on, I kept popping the clutch and stalling out. I had to keep telling myself, “to it, not through it.”My girlfriend was skeptical (at best) about the prospect of me getting a motorcycle. The only reason she took the course with me was because it was $20 (due to a partnership with Illinois). Now she keeps texting me bikes she likes and is looking for a way to keep riding until I eventually make a purchase.Every rider is different. And that’s okay. We’re all there to learn.I feel the class also helped me be a better car driver as well, or at the very least be more intentional about my actions on the road. These classes are a great way to meet so many different interesting people from different segments of society. We even had a 60 year old grandmother who is also a retired army paratrooper.Your coaches will give you a hard time if you show up dressed like Evel Knievel, even if you did so ironically (https://imgur.com/gallery/VByIHYa)Your spending habits will be immediately altered. No new fall jacket for me. That money’s earmarked for motorcycles.Drag the rear break in slow speed maneuvers.Show up well-rested. The classes are long, and you’ll be spent by the end of it.You WILL want to get a bike ASAPAll in all, it was awesome. Can’t wait to see you riders on the road! If you’re on the fence about it, I say do it! via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/9eq67u/reflections_from_my_msf_basic_riders_course/?utm_source=ifttt
