Carbon Motorbike Frames

So the Britten V1000 used a carbon frame and forks to demolish the Ducati opposition back in the early 90s. Now Ducati can't get a carbon frame to work? What gives? Could it be that the conventional telescopic forks are contributing unwanted hysteresis affects that the Britten's stiffer Hossack front end didn't?
