Checked the guidelines for this kind of thing and it appears to be allowed, so I'm just going ahead and ask.I'm 24 years old and kind of want to get into biking. Not because I particularly enjoy it but because it makes sense to me in my situation. I've always been the einzelgänger and have been accepted as such. I don't have many friends and don't feel a need to have them. I like being alone and doing my own thing, hence I would genuinely prefer taking the bus over carpooling with someone else(with exception from my parents or brother). I extremely rarely haul big things from one place to another with regard to a job or my studies. A car feels simply excessive. It's inefficient and pollutes way more than a motorcycle ever would. Even my parents agree with my reasoning; it might be that biking is just what would compliment me as person.Problem is the statistics have gotten me kind of frightened. A ~3000%(29 times) fatality rate relative to a car is impossible to ignore. The stories posted by outlets like the Guardian are not very comforting either; people writing things such as "near death experiences weekly". I've seen all sorts of comments with regard to the aforementioned such as "it's exaggerated, you just need to drive safely", "the deaths are just the reckless drivers, of which there are many in biking" and "don't get into biking when you're old or extremely out of shape". I find it hard to make sense of the actual dangers and prerequisites outside of being in OK shape and having good situational awareness. I am in OK shape, have good situational awareness and would be a safe driver for sure. Is there anyone out there who feels like they meet me on this front and would be willing to share their experiences driving? I also appreciate any elaboration on the dangers of biking from anyone else. Thanks! via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/fdmzcu/whether_to_or_not_to/?utm_source=ifttt
