1981 Honda CB750c Carb question

I just tore down the entire carburetor and cleaned all the jets. Popped off the top of the pods and noticed there was no diaphragm on the top parts of the carb. Now let me tell you about how this is the first time I have ever worked on a bike. The carb is a Keihin VB? That is what the embossing says on the side. It has a spring and some other piece in the top which is what I would assume the diaphragm would have been attached to. Not a single one of them has a diaphragm.I got the bike from an auction got it running twice with full choke but would never run without full choke then wouldn't run at all. So my go to was cleaning the carbs when I discovered this. Do some carbs not have a diaphragm? Does it hurt the bike to run with no diaphragm? Thanks for your answer and patience with my lack of grammar. via /r/CafeRacers https://www.reddit.com/r/CafeRacers/comments/fohi1a/1981_honda_cb750c_carb_question/?utm_source=ifttt
