Hey guys,I’ve been part of this group for several years now. I was going to get a motorcycle back in 2016 but ended up not because I was so occupied with other things.Just some background, I commute almost everyday to the airport, about a 60 miles round trip. I’m a sport car guy and my car gets TERRIBLE gas mileage. I ended up getting a $1,000 beater that has since broken down. That’s when the thought of getting a motorcycle came back into my mind. Mind you, I have several friends that ride as well who encouraged the idea as well.Last Sunday I bought my first motorcycle (A used Yamaha R6) and have my MSF course this week. I’m not gonna lie and say that I’ve been able to withhold the urge to ride my bike, I have taken it around the neighborhood for about an hour and LOVE it. Yes, I do have ALL my gear, high end gear too and not cheap shit... didn’t want to cheap out of gear.Nonetheless, I understand the risk that comes with riding. I know that many people end up dying on motorcycles. But I have also told my self that ultimately, learning how to ride means learning how to mitigate risk and ride defensively. I’ve been watching crash videos to “learn” from mistakes and man... after watching so many motorcycle crash videos, some of them being fatal, I’m kinda scared... I’m young and don’t have the whole (you only live once and we all die, die having fun at least mindset). I have a lot to live for in the future and want to make riding a bike as safe as possible. So my question is,How many of you have experienced this strong fear of death while learning how to ride? How much does wearing full gear at all time protect you from death or serious injury? Can a lot of the fatal crashes be avoided by not being an idiot and wheeling or speeding over 100mph on the freeway?Any words of encouragement or wisdom would be appreciated. via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/ez2tc0/need_some_words_of_support/?utm_source=ifttt
