Hey guys,I've contemplated posting this for about the last month and finally decided to share my story. The reason being hopefully I could help someone in a similar situation or perhaps provide a different perspective.Story On November 21st, 2019, I was on my way to a job interview before visiting my kids. It was around 11:45 AM, bright and sunny day. I was cruising through the light traffic of my little town when a Blue Dodge 1500 made an illegal left turn into traffic, and directly into me. The speed limit on this road is 55, and I went all 55mph right into this guy's grill. After a momentary flight record that would put me in the long-jump hall of fame (I was later told this was 50 feet) I woke up after a micro-slumber and decided I'd better go check up on everyone, and especially my bike. I had a pretty bad feeling about the motorcycle. So, I jump to my feet only to realize I can't move. Like, anything. I'm just laying there. So I try again with a little more effort. Nada. Then I realize I can't move my head. Just my eyes are in my control. All I see is grass. And I realized that there had been a ringing in my ear that was quickly fading.Shouting, screaming, the wind was pretty calming in its indifference to the events unfolding."Hey man, are you OK?" a man shouts to me. I went to give him a thumbs up. Fuck. I can't move. "Yeah..." is about all I can muster.Ambulance sirens come screeching into existence and I get a little excited thinking I've got the wind knocked out of me, body is probably just in shock.A paramedic comes and moves me onto a stretcher pretty quickly, and I ask him how my motorcycle is. No answer. He tells me he's going to cut my pants off and I tried to chuckle, and replied "Man I'm fine, these are pretty nice dress pants I'd rather you didn't. How's my bike? "No answer. He proceeds to cut my pants, my ass now flapping in the wind. I'm surprisingly offended. He continues, "Alright now the jacket" and I tried to roll over to stop him, but remembered... can't move."Dude stop, this jacket is insanely expensive and I am wearing nice clothes!"No response."I'm going to remove your helmet now, but I have to cut the strap." I beg, "No man, I just bought this helmet 3 days ago! Dont take it off!"When I remembered the emergency release straps, because my broke ass finally got a decent helmet, I tell the EMT.No response. But I feel two tugs and my helmet comes off. [I actually don't visually remember seeing the helmet come off but based off context this is when it happened]At this point I realized in my struggles with comprehension, there had been a helicopter whirring nearby. This startled me because we have a helipad evac in this town just a couple blocks away.Shit, maybe this is serious. But I feel fine. No pain... maybe its for the other guy?I ask the EMT with one final plea, "Please tell me my bike is ok, man!" And he stops. He heard me! I'm not dead! "Shut up about your bike, its fucked. I'm trying to save your life."Oh. Shit. This chopper is for me. As I'm loaded up, the guy (co- pilot?) Asks me if I've ever flown in a helicopter. "No, but something tells me today is my lucky day." He laughs, I think. Hard to tell over the roar of the blades. He continues to explain about eye protection and slaps some glasses on me.We take off and he tries talking to me but I close my eyes and thought to myself "This is the most calm death anyone has ever had, probably. No fear. No concern. Why am I not crying? Why am I not thinking of my kids? Why am I not in any pain? I feel fine... I feel... nothing. "I had apparently fallen asleep, as I awoke to being unloaded onto a roof. Immediately rushed into a hallway so bright I swear jesus was about to part some clouds and fist bump me.There's a lot of people talking but I cant see any of them. As I focused I realized there were... fuzzy blobs... all around me. In the shape of people. One presses something against my face, and I hear a familiar tone. "You're calling [Ex fiancee] tell her where you are. You're in Baltimore Shock-Trauma"No one answers and I'm directed to leave a message. "Hey [deleted], it's me. I was in an accident I'm at Shock-Trauma. Tell my kids I always loved them. Take care of them."And that was it.As dramatic an ending as I could have imagined, as the anesthesia set in and i was placed in immediate surgery.*TL;DR Was hit by a truck sent to a Shock-Trauma center where I underwent 46 total hours of surgery and was glued back together. *DamageMy Bike was totaled, and so was the guys truck. I don't have pictures of either, unfortunately. As my bike was hauled off the scene to a junk yard.Warning wild xray picturesI broke over 20 bones, the big breaks were: * Left Elbow * Left radius (visible in elbow pictures) * Left Wrist * Left Pinky * Right Elbow * Left Femur * Left Tib/Fib (worst break of all) * 3/5 Left Toes * 9 Ribs (No pictures, not sure why actually) * 2 Vertebrae (No Pictures)My left foot had 2/3 arteries severed, and had lost most of the blood. They were going to amputate it but a vein specialist- surgeon (forgive me) stepped in and was able to successfully save it. It was closely monitored every 3 hours during recovery.I was in a medically induced coma for 4 days while they performed numerous surgeries.Shockingly little organ damage considering the damage to my ribs. I lost my spleen, and had pretty bad hemorrhaging from a kidney laceration. Got to keep the kidney, though.I have 14 incision sites. Some of these were puncture wounds from the compound fracture.Right now they're unsure if I'll be able to ever walk on my left leg again. There's a possibility though.I spent 4 weeks in Shock Trauma, and 4 weeks in in- patient rehab. I now attend out- patient rehab 3 days a week. The worst of all this has been the emotional trauma and PTSD. I've lost just about most of everything because of this. Ive had to relocate across the US because I had no one to care for me as full-time nursing wasn't covered by insurance. Thusly, I've lost my apartment, my job, my kids, my girlfriend (overwhelmed by everything), and have no money. I only bring this up because this is what's not talked about. This is what people don't see when they hear about accidents. Of course this is an extreme case, but I felt it vital to share. Thanks for reading, and good luck out there! via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/f1i1wl/i_got_hit_by_a_dodge_1500_and_died_or_so_im_told/?utm_source=ifttt
