How do I clean my bike?

Sounds dumb and an obvious question to Google, except every answer is different and nothing is particularly clear.Can I just hose the whole thing down, then use a car wash/wax with sponge, then hose that off, then dry it - then lube chain - and be done with it?What should I use as chain lubricant?
