Almost hit a kid on a zebra crossing

There’s a zebra crossing right next to a junction in my town. A car flashed me to come out of the junction this morning which I thought was odd as they had right of way. I completely forgot there was a crossing. So immediately I came out and carried on along the road only to see a school kid run in front of me on the crossing. Obviously I now know why the car had stopped and let me out. I feel like a fucking idiot and it’s really shook me. Nothing like this has happened before. How can I be more aware of pedestrians when I’m constantly surveying the road? Any tips (apart from the obvious ‘use your eyes’) would be great.. via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/f25u9h/almost_hit_a_kid_on_a_zebra_crossing/?utm_source=ifttt
