1986 Yamaha Radian - Voltage regulator plug is fried

Hi all, so I recently bought a 1986 yamaha radian as my first bike. The bike ran great for about 25 minutes, then it starts shutting off. i tested all the electrical components then I unplugged the voltage regulator and turns out it was completely fried. it was all burned up so i thought I could just bypass the plug. anyway, I cut the wires out and then heat shrunk them all back together and now the bike wont even turn on, like no lights or anything. I am certain I wired it right, it is possible that i needed the plug for the bike to work? I'm looking into getting a whole new wiring harness but didn't want to have to do all that as I am a novice working on bikes. what could be the problem? I am kind of pissed. thanks via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/ez3iz8/1986_yamaha_radian_voltage_regulator_plug_is_fried/?utm_source=ifttt
