Should I get a 300cc or a 500cc?

I recently talked my parents into letting me get my first street bike. I have some knowledge on how to shift and work the clutch, brakes, etc. from riding on my friends dirt bike. My parents want me to get a 300cc because one of the workers at the first dealership I went to said a 250cc-300cc is a good starter bike and not to go anymore than that. I talked to my friend about it who has a special edition R6 ( not sure exactly which edition I just know it’s orange and black ) and he told me to get a bigger engine size cause I’d grow out of that in a month. I went to a new dealership tonight and saw this really nice Honda CBR500R and asked the dealership guy if he thought that would be a good starter bike, he said yes. He also mentioned that it would help get me out of tougher situations quicker and safer. I’m not sure exactly what to do. Do I go with the 300cc or do I convince my parents to let me get a 500cc.
