I spent north of $10k on motorcycle related things since summer 2018. I bought a new ruckus, $3600 out the door and $400 in gear. had some fun but tried to mod up the speed since I could only hit 20mph on hills. I ended up wearing down the variator shaft causing a rattle. Last winter the dealer was kind enough to let me trade it in for $1600 against a $2500 2009 Rebel 250. Coming from a ruckus that was a big upgrade. Got comfortable on it over the summer, took it to the track even. I decided to go all out on gear, went full Dianese with Shoei helmet, a summer and winter jacket. I went total gear spec crazy for months. When I was done I spent $3500 on gear - but it fit great, is protective and makes me feel cool.Adding it all up I could have gotten a MUCH better starter bike and decent gear for what I spent. the rebel is not great on the freeway but it works around the neighborhood. I've thought about every bike I could get next. I'm not a Harley guy, not into speed or dirt, just love to Cruise and corner. I'm weary of sinking thousands into another bike given my track record. So for now I'm the guy on the cheap rebel wearing the Italian red leathers. Wave to me in Seattle. via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/em5jx2/rethinking_18_months_of_spending/?utm_source=ifttt
