Today I learned a hard lesson about wearing the proper gear.

I'm a new motorcycle rider, and especially since I'm new I ride very safely, with all the gear possible - leather padded pants, boots, jacket with lots of padding, helmet, gloves, you name it. I ride only to commute (saves $ on parking), about a 10 minute ride.Today it was about 40C (about 105F), so it is very hot with all my gear on, but for only a 10 minute ride I don't care enough to buy new gear just for the 1 or 2 days per year it gets that hot, as usually where I live is very mild.I'm also paranoid of cars hitting me, so if I can, when I turn I also use hand signals, pointing left or right so the car behind me can see them in addition to my turn signals.Today, a cop must not have seen my turn signals, so he pulled me over after I turned to ask me why I was using hand signals. I was really nervous so I didn't think to take off my helmet or anything (mostly because I wear glasses, so it's kind of a process to get it off), but the guy came up to me, asked me a few questions, and then went back to sit in his car. He sat there for about 5 minutes, I got off the bike and started removing my overpants, and he told me to stop and sit back on the bike. I don't really know why he told me this, it's not like I look threatening or anything (I'm a 120 lb female lol), but I was kind of nervous so I just got back on the bike.He sat there for about another 10 minutes and I started to feel woozy from the heat... and after a few minutes I fainted right on my bike, fortunately falling forward and not tipping the bike over. When I came to, the cop was standing beside me and helped me to get my helmet off and handed me a bottle of water, then allowing me to leave.Honestly guys... don't ride in hot weather without the appropriate gear!! via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/egkz9o/today_i_learned_a_hard_lesson_about_wearing_the/?utm_source=ifttt
