Is this bike stolen?

Friend of mine asked me to check out a Kawasaki Ninja that's been sitting in the driveway of his house for about two years (college student house, lots of people moving in and out every couple months). Story is some guy dating someone at the house years ago left it and never took it back after they broke up. I took a look at it today, the igintion tumbler has been removed and the wires cut and taped, the gas tank key tumbler is removed and you can see gouging from where someone tried to pry/machine it out, and the rear compartment keyhole has also been wrecked to the point anything can be stuck in to turn it. I'm 90% sure these are signs it was a stolen bike, although it does have the original VIN still on the frame and doesn't look like it was altered in any way.Obviously the right thing would be to try to find out if its stolen, idk if there's a way to do it without looking hella suspicious to the cops while doing so though. This is in Ontario, Canada if that changes anything. via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/e48imn/is_this_bike_stolen/?utm_source=ifttt
