You know how it goes: first you cover your new bike and lock it with the chain around a post, then you start using only the disc lock as the street is quiet at night, and the bike is just under your windows.And one morning, your heart wrinkle your socks on its way down as it's obvious she moved during the night, and probably not on her own volition.She's now seriously bruised on her right side: handlebar askew, bar end slider and footrest dangili-dong (or whatever it's called: the strut that dangle from the footrest for those of us who don't make the difference between a road and a circuit) torn out, scratches here and there, disc lock firmly wedged against the brake caliper. The only reason she's not lying on the ground is a benevolent neighbour.The doorbell cam tells a fuller story1: a handful of maleficent tools stopping their car, opening the trunk thus turning loose a stream of nauseating would-be rap2 upon the sleeping city, with all the intents of snatching the fine 125cc they probably ogled a few days/hours ago. Three of them strolling toward my precious, off camera. 5 seconds of relative (see above) silence. Then the dreaded warning a shitty chinese alarm, followed by an even-more-dreaded screech of said not-so-shitty-in-retrospect alarm. Then a crash. Shitty, they might have been, as they were not strolling anymore while getting back to their car.And this, ladies and gentlemen, is how a 15€ I'll-never-call-it-shitty-again chinese alarm saved Bérénice from my own complacency and a few fools' greed. Or the other way round, you decide.Lesson learned, she's now back under her cover, disc locked and chained to a post, and the best defense against thieves is still good insurance.
