Converting old sv650 or selling and buying track prepped bike

Basically what the title says. I have a 2005 sv650 naked with about 40k miles on it. I'm looking to either convert this to track only when I upgrade to new commuter bike, or sell it and use the proceeds for a ninja 300. It still runs fine, and except for some electrical glitches has never given me any issues.I know the general advise is buy one already prepped, but with a bike this old, it's worth maybe $2,000 to sell. Can I really get into a track prepped bike for near that in California?
