Why we need to carefully choose the tyres we buy

Tyres are generally where we spend the most of our hard earned cash. We are very fortunate that today we can buy whatever we want for single, double and triple compounds. We can buy all sorts of different sizes. We can buy all manner of tread/sipe patterns for wet weather to track use. There are a three key factors that everyone should consider when replacing their existing tires:Are you going with the same tire or a new model within or outside the current brand? What is the "born on date"?? (the image is the 49th week of 2008)Do you know what you are buying in regards to carcass and profile/height?NOTE: there is no universal mold for any tire size that all manufacturers adhere to.There are no bad tyres available for purchase today - there is not enough information to leverage how good they are.The most common issue is that new tyres are spooned on without any regard to the carcass and circumference compared to the old set that has been removed. It is quite simply far too much work to measure everything with bits of string or cloth tape measures..... Consequently, the geometry of the motorcycle can be turned from perfect to something a very, very long way from it. As a consequence, the tires are amazing or absolute junk or so so and riders are happy to share that opinion with all that will listen. We can all improve the return on our investment quite easily :)If there is one task that I can challenge all of you with no matter what you ride, that would be to go to the nearest shop and pull three different brand/model 180/55 tires off the rack (the most common). Line them up together to compare height - are they the same? They won't be...... What happens to your motorcycle if you put the smaller tyre on? It won't turn as well. What happens if you put the bigger tyre on - it might turn faster? The bigger message here is that you can start "paying it forward" as staff may join in to learn and how many hundreds of riders might that benefit when the staff member asks the "What brand and model are you using now and what do you want to change to? Do you realize it may negatively impact your bike especially with turning?"The information you learn will last you a lifetime, maximize the handling, grip and longevity of all tires you choose to use! via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/d58te1/why_we_need_to_carefully_choose_the_tyres_we_buy/?utm_source=ifttt
