[OT] [Shitpost] MotoGP riders as NBA stars

Recently I had a conversation with my MotoGP buddy about Rossi and his career and we started drawing parallels with other top athletes. Being on summer break from uni I have lots of free time these days, so when I went home I started comparing MotoGP riders with NBA players and made this list.

  • Mick Doohan -> Larry Bird (mental toughness, performing while severely injured, rarely mentioned in GOAT conversations but they probably should)
  • Nicky Hayden -> Dirk Nowitzki (underdogs, did the impossible beating generational talents, wholesome characters)
  • Valentino Rossi -> Lebron James (the most popular, won with different teams, while not being the most successful they are close to the top, crazy longevity, businessmen)
  • Marc Marquez -> Steph Curry (small guys that showed up and revolutionized the game, dominant champions, record breaking seasons followed by failure but then returned to domination, biggest threat to Lebron's/Rossi's legacy, had beef with Lebron/Rossi)
  • Alex Marquez -> Seth Curry (pretty solid but always overshadowed by their older brothers)
  • Andrea Dovizioso -> Kawhi Leonard (introverted, quiet, calculating, extremely good at defending their position, extremely good at negotiating contracts, fundamentals over flashy moves, get the job done)
  • Dani Pedrosa -> Derrick Rose (all-time great talents, careers plagued by bad luck and injuries)
  • Jorge Lorenzo -> Kobe Bryant (extreme focus and dedication, can handle the pressure, have the ability to beat the best, injuries during the last years)
  • Maverick Vinales -> Kyrie Irving (been teammates to Lebron/Rossi, huge amounts of talent, expected to take the next step and become the next big thing but haven't done it yet, known for being head cases)
  • Casey Stoner -> Michael Jordan if he retired in 1993 and never came back (very biased because I believe Casey is the most naturally talented rider ever)
  • Andrea Iannone -> J.R. Smith (good talents that should have done a lot more, always find pretty creative ways to fuck things up)
  • Aleix Espargaro -> Pat Beverley (both are dogs, never been the most gifted but they overperform, tough, get angry really easily)
  • Cal Crutchlow -> Draymond Green (do the dirty job, tough guys, on their day they can be beasts, have no filter on what they say, they complain a lot, constantly in a love/hate relationship with fans)
  • Jack Miller -> Ben Simmons (young Aussies with lots of talent, due to circumstances they have been considered rookies for more than one year, they haven't yet done great things but you know they will soon)
  • Danilo Petrucci -> Isaiah Thomas (don't have the pedigree of their teammates/competitors but they are pretty fucking decent, nobody expected them to do well due to their size, showed up out of nowhere and did amazing things, currently on a slump)
  • Fabio Quartararo -> Luka Doncic (extremely young, people doubted them when they got signed, showed up and were amazing right away)
  • Pecco Bagnaia -> Lonzo Ball (got a lot of hype because of what they did in the lower classes, haven't performed anywhere near the initial expectations but they have a chance next year to show their value)
  • Franco Morbidelli -> Kyle Kuzma (went under the radar but performed well, flashes of brilliance but they need to step it up next season, seem fun to hang out with)
  • Pol Espargaro -> Zach LaVine (walking highlight reels, try their best to carry a horrible team to some success)
  • Johann Zarco -> Tyreke Evans (rookie phenomena, questionable decisions that led to career suicide, without a job for next year)
  • Alex Rins -> Damian Lillard (loyal to their team, talented but underrated during their early years, they have taken a step forward this season leading their teams to more wins, seem ready to make a championship challenge next year, on fire on the late stages of the game/race)
  • Joan Mir -> Jayson Tatum (both look 15 years old, have the potential to be great, need to show more, currently on a slump)
  • Romano Fenati -> Ron Artest/Metta World Peace (both nuts, both banned after assaulting competitors during a race/game, on a path of "redemption")
  • Miguel Oliveira -> Mike Conley Jr. (both very crafty, chronically underrated even though they have performed great, always on a good mood)
  • Colin Edwards -> Chris Bosh (could be stars on a lesser team, took a secondary role on a top team, team players, loved by both teammates and competitors)
