A story for motorcyclist who have never felt 110 degree weather. Link of burn photo at the bottom.I live out here in Phoenix. My buddy I work with asked me to ride his R1 home from the impound. I dont own a bike but grew up riding dirt bikes and friends motorcycles. Even have my motorcycles license. I have probably about 75-100 hours on street motorcycles from all genres of bikes. I have never ridden an R1(2014) or a liter streetbike for that fact. I took the opportunity even though I was nervous of the heat we had that week and traffic because of what time we had to do this. That day was a 112°F and 4pm heavy traffic. The trip was from south Phoenix driving to central Tempe. I had respect for the bike and its power so I chose to ride city streets but was gonna get some freeway action by his house on the 60 freeway. Now I just left work and had my work pants on which had "high-water" from the seat. My ankles were exposed to the 140°F asphalt and the 220° engine. The pants being pulled up was exposing and burning my pale ass skin. I adjusted my pants to protect my right ankle. The left ankle felt like I was standing to close to a camp fire and not moving from it. So while this burn sensation is going on I am dedicating my attention the traffic, the road ahead, debris, work trucks with lose shit, etc. Now I've reached the 60 freeway, I finally get my joyride on a damn near empty mile stretch on the 60. I did not redline or ride to hard because it's not my bike and the heat is torture on the engine. So I got a quick taste of the power and quick speed, well over 100mph. Probably a big mistake for my expose ankle. Once I was off the freeway and back at a light. My skin was beat red and felt like I rode through HELL! 4 hours later the small blister appeared. Next morning I was sure it was 2nd to 3rd degree burns.Lesson is - protective gear. Always. And dont ride like a jackass just because you have an opportunity too(me). Here are some photos.
