Motorcycles and the Railroad

Hey all. Little PSA to help prevent accidents. I am a railroader. Like many in my craft we love motorcycles. This morning it was our displeasure to find a fellow motorcycle entheusiast deceased on our tracks. It seems he wiped out on the crossing and wound up perpendicular to the rails at speed. He was gone by the time he was found. Railroad crossings are dangerous to bikers outside of the whole oncoming train thing. Ive even been taken out myself. They can be very slippery and uneven. A tar crossing can sink with age and raise the rails up higher than they should be for mega slippery bumps. The newer modular concrete crossings are probably the best grip wise and dont sink. The worst tho are the rubber mat crossings. This rubber is slippery as shit when dry and add some morning mist and you might as well be riding on ice. Please please be careful when approaching rail crossings. Keep is shiny side up.Few tips i use to stay upright is to attack the rails as close to perpendicular as you can. Another thing I do tho i admit i dont know if it helps is i clutch in and just let the bike free roll iver everything. No gas, no brake. Course the trains are always dropping oil grease and fuel as well as watching out for sand rocks and other shit. Please by safe guys, ride smart. Stay alive. My sincere condolences to the family and friends of the rider who passed this morning. via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/cwe2l6/motorcycles_and_the_railroad/?utm_source=ifttt
