I’m 5’8”, shortish legs and haven’t ridden for 14 years, previous riding “experience “ was one season on a Yamaha Virago Midnight 920I just traded a Jonboat for a 1999 Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic, around 25,000 miles in very good conditionOverall I like it, I just don’t like the heavy steering at low speeds below 5-7 MPH (speed limit in my housing development is 15), I’m learning and getting reacquainted with the physics of motorcycling, and to my inexperienced ass, the 650 just seems.... heavyI found a nearly new condition ‘93 Yamaha Virago 750 with saddlebags, rear seat and sissy bar, with 13,000 miles on it, for a killer price, but I’d have to sell the 650 to be able to afford itI like the geometry of the 750 better, looks like it’d have lighter steering, the pipes look factory (quiet), and the wheels are alloy, which look to be less maintenance intensive than the wire wheels on the 650The only reason I went with the 650 is the owner was willing to do a straight across trade, bike for boat swap, if I had the money, I’d probably be leaning towards the 750Which would be a better first/learners bike? The 1999 V-Star 650 Classic with 25,000 miles that I already ownThe 1993 Virago 750 with 13,000 miles that I’d have to sell the 650 to afford, then register all over again and change the insurance policy....Honestly it comes down to the 750 has a tach, alloy wheels, and nicer saddlebags that are already installed, the 650 has low profile plastic panniers, rear seat and sissy bar that need to be installed but I’m missing the install bolts/kitThen again, I already own the 650, it’s a great bike, and there’ll always be something better down the road, I’m already adapting to the “heavier” low speed steering as my confidence builds via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/cipm4c/which_would_be_a_better_beginners_bike/?utm_source=ifttt
