When did you decide to drop big money on a new bike?

I've had my first bike, an 80's Honda xl200 dual sport for over a year now. I love riding trails and gravel roads through the mountains, but I'm finally getting to the point where I feel the need to upgrade to a bigger bike. Anything beyond 50mph just strains this bike and I really want to start taking some bigger trips.I've my eye on the Kawasaki Versys 300x. 40HP, 100mph+ top speed, cruises at 75mph, 60+mpg, off road capable, sleek design. The more I look into the bike the more I want it. Thing is they're about $4-$5k. Now I have the cash to buy this with a comfortable amount left over, but I'm not that old and this would be my first big time purchase like this. Even my truck cost less than half that. One of the things I really like about my current bike is that it's bone simple- 1 cylinder, 2 valves, kickstart, can run without a battery.. it's the ultimate shtf bike. But the Versys- 8 valves, twin cylinder, fuel injected, electric starter.. there's a lot more to fail and it's going to cost a lot more to repair, and maintenance might need to be done by a professional which will cost more too. I don't want to go all in on this nice bike just to learn the upkeep costs significantly more than I was expecting. For any of those who've been in a similar situation, how did you justify purchasing a new or like new bike? via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/c9cexz/when_did_you_decide_to_drop_big_money_on_a_new/?utm_source=ifttt
