What advice do you wish you could go back and give yourself before you started riding?

Notes to my naive past self: 1) Do not try to look cool and wear a dark smoke visor at night. You will not be able to see shit and you will crash. Reference: I crashed. 2) If a person wants to ride on the back of your bike to see what it's like, ask them what kind of ride they want. Do they want a gingerly paced ride around the block or do they want to go screaming down a back street? Reference: I took my brother for a ride and assumed he wanted me to punch it. Nope. Turns out he was terrified and refuses to ride with me to this day. Now I ask. 3) Pick an amount of miles well below empty upon which you will refill your gas tank. Reference: Two separate sits on the side of the highway switching to my reserve tank after running out of gas in the fast lane. 4) Take any new gear out for an around the block test ride before attempting to go long distance. Reference: I wore thick new gloves because it was cold out and rode like absolute shit because I had no experience with tempering my speed through them. 5) Look through where you're turning and not right at the pavement in front of you. It will be so much smoother. Reference: I still have to tell myself this every day. I get fixated on watching the ground in front of me for pot holes and debris and my riding gets choppy especially on turns.I'm sure I have a hundred more but I'd love to hear some of your "learn from my fail" pieces of wisdom! via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/cj872c/what_advice_do_you_wish_you_could_go_back_and/?utm_source=ifttt
