Numberplates in your country?

So I live in South Africa and around here numberplates in bikes are uhm "optional" results may varyI have been riding a year without a plate without ever being pulled over or fined for it. I don't even have that butt ugly bracket on. My girlfriend was pulled over once but the cop eventually just let her go as he essentially wanted a bribe and we just kept on telling him that it's fine just write the fine as I would rather pay a fine than put that ugly plate on my or her bike for that matter.I was wondering how strict are the laws in your countries regarding this matter?On a sidenote the fine for an illegal smaller sized plate is much much higher than having no plate at all here.
