Why old is gold

I wanted to explain why I think old motorcycles are awesome, and hear other poeples opinions on this as well. Now I'm not saying there isn't a place for new motorcycles, or that I don't like new motorcycle, I'm just saying I think everyone should own an old bike at least once in their lives, or maybe have an old and new bike. For me, I like the 80s styling of cruiser bikes that stands out so much compared to a lot of other designs. Some models that come to mind are the Honda magna, kawasaki kz series, Yamaha Maxim, or the suzuki intruder. Now I wanted to add some Harleys because they had some bad ass bikes back in the 80s, but honestly I rarley see any older Harleys on the road today. That may upset a few but it's true and kind of stands testament to the quality of Japanese motorcycles and how their built to last. I'll admit though today the American manufacturers have stepped up a lot to try and compete with foreign manufacturers.I've had 2 bikes so far and both were from the 80s. Both had low miles in the 10k range and both ran beautifully after I put in the work to get them where they need to be. That's another thing I love about them, actually getting to work on them and actually getting to know your bike a whole lot more than a new one. I feel that adds a personal level and sentimental value to the bike because you've put blood sweat and tears into it and the bike begins to mean something to you and isn't just a bike anymore, it's alive. And you love it even with all its quirks. And I know how to do damn near everything that I would need to on my bike now too.Another thing I like is the fact that it's just you, your speedo, and maybe a tach, between you and the road. Something about it makes you feel more on tune with the ride. No electronics to malfunction, no fiddling with all these damn controls and taking your attention away from the road.Old bikes may not be the fastest, or the most pretty all the time, or handle as well, but for me there's this allure that they have that I can't get from a new bike. My buddies have new bikes and having ridden them I can say I think they're fun as hell and I will forsure have a new bike one day as well because they're obviously the future. What do you guys think about older bikes? Which do you like better and why? via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/bzarzc/why_old_is_gold/?utm_source=ifttt
