Successful Iron Butt SaddleSore 1000!

Rode my first Iron Butt SaddleSore 1000 yesterday (1000 miles in under 24 hours) with a great group of riders, riding in groups of three or four. We started at 4 am in Michigan and turned around in Knoxville, Tennessee. Poured rain on us for about the last 100 miles until we finished at midnight. Tough but seriously fun; I would recommend it to anybody, and anybody can do it if the weather is good and you don't have any bike problems. Ended up being just about 1060 miles on a BMW 310 GS. Just have to submit my paperwork now and buy new jorts to fit these iron buttocks of mine...Some tips:Earplugs or earplug headphones are a big help, bring some tylenol or something for aches, a tank bag was useful, rain gear is good (but not perfect), invent little mental games to fight fatigue (sometimes podcasts or music don't cut it), it is fun to ride with a partner (small groups are good), don't use caffeine (you have to urinate more and have the potential to crash; the iron butt people recommend using sour candies instead to wake up the senses and this really worked well for me), and for this Iron Butt ride you don't have to rush at all and can sight-see a little. via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/bw4atb/successful_iron_butt_saddlesore_1000/?utm_source=ifttt
