How in the hell do you ride in rain?

I just bought my first bike about two months ago and have been loving it, but recently I haven't gotten to ride a lot because my area has had a ton of rain. Well tonight I decided that it looked like there was a little break in the waterworks so I would go or for a nice little ride. However, 30 minutes into my ride the bottom fell out of the sky and I was so confused. I have a full helmet so my face shield was just a sheet of water, but when I tried lifting it so I could see better the water pelted my face and eyes so hard that I had to pull it back down. I was also in the middle of bfe so there was no where to pull over and just ride it out. So how do you do it?
