Confused and Want to Help Keep Motorcycles Safe

Hello, a quick question from somebody who doesn't own a motorcycle. My girlfriend just called me. Says she was at a red light at an intersection. A motorcycle was in front of her--with one man. A motorcycle was in the right lane next to her and the riders were a man and a woman--they were briefly talking to the man in front of my girlfriend. Then the couple riders in the lane to the right of her suddenly kept waiving for her to move up--closer to the motorcycle in front of her. The only people at the light were my girlfriend and both motorcycles. Any ideas what this was about?
