1982 Yahama XJ750 Nightmare bike

So my friend got his license here in Colorado, and before I could even offer any help, he falls victim to the current trend and buys a 1982 Yamaha XJ750 bike turned into a bobber/cafe thing. Now this thing is a cool enough bike, but I spent about 8 hours diagnosing and fixing electrical issues already (no headlight power, headlight/highbeam wires soldered on wrong, makeshift fuse box, no turn signals, approximately 200ft of electrical tape and no connectors...the list goes on).I consider myself to be quite the mechanic, but these next problems are something else:1.) When you turn the forks, the idle changes pretty wildly. I've checked the throttle and choke cables, and neither is moving any amount when the forks are moved.2.) The bike will die while in motion, and will or will not start right back up...totally depends on the bike's mood it seems.3.) When turning the throttle, there's no response immediately, followed by a "sweet spot" of response, followed by another dead spot. I would estimate about 1/8 nothing, 3/8 throttle, 4/8 nothing.Items for consideration:-Battery is good and voltage is just fine.-Every seal in the fuel/air system is absolutely perfect.-Bike started dying while I was riding it, so I turned the lights/gauges off (that's another story), and the bike seemed to kind of come back to life. Please, any help would be appreciated. I've combed many threads and information sources, and it seems that no one else has had these problems (at least that I can see). My buddy may have picked a dumb first bike, but I'd at least like to help make his future experience better if I can! via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/bypycu/1982_yahama_xj750_nightmare_bike/?utm_source=ifttt
