I'm curious as to why I see so many posts of beginner track riders where they mention the use of slick tires. My pops was an avid track day rider back in the day and was a TD instructor for a period of time as well. When I asked him if he ever used slicks he said that he never had to, he was running some of the fastest times in the Advanced group on top level DOT tires so he never saw the need to make the jump (considering the hassle of warmers and such).I've also heard many riding coaches and different podcasts (such as Ken Hill's) that mention being able to come within seconds of the track lap record on high level DOT tires. So I find it interesting that I see so many people mention the use of slicks. Why would you want the added hassle for marginal gains? You need a good deal of skill to try to even get some heat in slicks let alone use them to the point where they are more advantageous than DOT tires of the modern times. via /r/Trackdays https://www.reddit.com/r/Trackdays/comments/bq5vdg/discussion_about_slicks/?utm_source=ifttt
