Remembering the human

This morning I had a doctor’s appointment and rode in. While pulling into the parking lot I was waiting behind a pickup who was in turn waiting for another car to pull out so he could take that parking spot. The pickup in front of me started to backup into me and I had to honk/rev and backup as quickly as I could to avoid being run over. The guy clearly didn’t see me or maybe didn’t look when he backed up and of course it pissed me off. After he parked I did another rev to express my anger. When walking into the office, I gave him the “wtf” gesture while he was sitting in his truck. But then when I was sitting in the waiting room the guy comes up wearing a Harley jacket and starts apologizing, saying he rides a fat bob and didn’t see me and felt so terrible. We shake on it, I say it’s no worries and we chat while we wait. He opens up a bit about some of his medical stuff and is getting a bit emotional, talking about how he was stressed about his condition and was ruminating on it this morning, how he has to come in for treatments and needs a liver transplant.I really felt for the guy and all my previous anger just disappeared. It’s easy for me to just get angry at someone when they make a choice that puts me in danger on my bike, but it’s way harder for me to take a moment and give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they’re having a stressful day, maybe they had some bad news, who knows what someone else is dealing with.I just wanted to share a thought I had with others who may have had a similar experience. Ride safe, everyone. Take care of each other. via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/aryls0/remembering_the_human/?utm_source=ifttt
