I have a 79 CB750 that was given to me as a wedding gift by my father in law. The bike won't stay running with a charge for more than 10 minutes. When I popped the cover there were sheddings of alternator in the cover (does this need to be replaced? Is there a better modern one than an original? Ricks?).Also, when the bike is on, gas leaks from the carbs. I suspect they need have the jets, gaskets, and floats replaced, yes? Also, it has been sitting in the garage for eight months with some fuel. Should I drain the bowls and tank and put fresh gas in once I get the carbs straight and the alternator charging or is there a product I need to put in the tank?Once I get it running I will likely freshen up the brakes, tires, chain, sprockets, check the valves, plugs, and fluids. Any general recommendations? A fellow awhile back recommended a different set of carbs... mikuni or something, but I couldn't find much information on that and I can't figure how that would be a major advantage over a set of fresh and tuned factory carbs.
