So yesterday I’m doing some basic stuff for a bike that’s been in storage for a while. Replace a rotted fuel line, clean a carb, charge a battery, replace fluids. I get everything good to go, hit the start button, and there isn’t enough juice to get it to turn over. But it keeps trying! In fact, it keeps trying after I hit the kill switch. And it keeps trying after I pull the key out of the ignition. Wtf? So I junk that battery like I thought I would have to, and go get a new one from a local Cycle Gear. I explain what’s going on, they have no idea (like I figured, I mean how many shorts could one bike have to do that?!), but I get a new battery and head home. As soon as I connect the leads, the bike starts trying to kick over. Sparks flying off the terminals (which are fucking melting). Still no key in it, kill switch still in the off position. What the fuck. I check all the wiring, I replace all the fuzes. Same thing. Finally I check a forum. Same thing had happened to another guy right after he used a new battery charger. The plates inside the starter solenoid had fused together from too much amperage. The solution to this was hitting the solenoid with a hammer. Which I tried, and sure enough, it worked.Anyone else have any strange or unusual problems they couldn’t figure out or just didn’t make any sense? Would love to hear em after yesterday’s all day ordeal. via /r/motorcycles https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/ad7ml8/strangest_problem_youve_had_with_your_bike/?utm_source=ifttt
