Importing a motorcycle from Italy the the U.S.

I'm moving to Italy this year and would like to buy a Kawasaki Z900 when I get there. I'll only be in Italy for a few years and would like to bring my bike with me when I come back to the states. I know that it will have to conform with the U.S. EPA and DOT rule, and I know that vehicles sold in other countries will be built to different specifications. But I am having trouble what is different between the U.S. and Italian Z900s. I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction to find out what will need to be changed to get this bike to us specs, and if it would even be worth it to try.
